We are back with another update.
In our last update, we touched on construction works, such as the roof and land gutters, that were completed on-site and the preparations of shipping a container to Ghana.
At that time, the carpenter was still working hard on finishing and installing all the shutters in the day-center. He has now completed all of that and it looks beautiful! The team is very pleased with the result.
The gutter on the land has been completed, the roof gutters seem to be doing the job of collecting rain water and protecting the roof.
The heavy rains have finally stopped too. There were a few weeks of dry weather followed by what seemed to be some left-over rain season.
The Peace Home team has been continuing the daily work of taking care of all the members.
Now, there have been some new exciting developments..
Firstly, Shalu has made her way to Ghana last week and is back working with the team at Peace Home. She is happily staying on the land for a few months to help with the next big steps towards completing Peace Home's day-center.
Aside from that, the container has arrived at the harbour of Accra. Vera and Shalu will travel there together and Vera will take possession of the container. They will travel with the transportation company and the container back to Busua.
The container is filled with loads of furniture for the interior of the day-center which is what team will be focussing on in the next couple of months. The first challenge will be driving the huge container on the bad roads to Busua and then finding a place in the village to offload the container.. There's no space for the container on the land of Peace Home, nor is there a place for the huge truck to drive up and turn with the container. The furniture and other items will have to be driven to the site with a smaller vehicle.
We will keep you updated on the developments in the next couple of months.

NL: Container richting Ghana & een reünie
We zijn weer terug met een update.
In de vorige update hebben we verteld over een aantal bouwwerken die werden afgerond op het land zoals de land- en dakgoten. In Nederland werd toen hard gewerkt aan het verzamelen van spullen en vullen van een container die naar Ghana is verscheept inmiddels.
Bij Peace Home werd er toen nog volop gewerkt aan de houten luiken voor alle ramen in het dagcentrum. Inmiddels zijn die helemaal afgewerkt en geïnstalleerd. Het team is zeer tevreden met het resultaat. Het ziet er prachtig uit.
De waterafvoer op het land is af en doet het goed. Ook dit is heel netjes afgewerkt. De dakgoot vangt het regenwater netjes waardoor er meer schoon water beschikbaar is bij Peace Home. Het regenseizoen is inmiddels wel over.
Het vaste team is nog altijd dagelijks voor de jongeren aan het werk die ook veel langs komen voor activiteiten en zorg.
Er zijn wat leuke nieuwe ontwikkelingen bij Peace Home...
Ten eerste is Shalu weer in Ghana! Ze heeft net haar tweede week terug bij Peace Home gehad en zal de komende paar maanden weer samenwerken met de rest van het team om het dagcentrum verder af te maken. Het zal een leuke en productieve tijd worden voor het team.
Verder is de container inmiddels aangekomen in de haven van Accra. Vera en Shalu gaan deze week samen naar Accra om de container in ontvangst te nemen. Zij zullen dan samen met het transportbedrijf terugreizen naar Busua.
De container zit vol met mooi meubilair en andere spullen voor in het dagcentrum. Het team zal de komende paar maanden druk bezig zijn met het interieur van het dagcentrum afmaken en inrichten.
Het transporteren van de grote container zal de eerste uitdaging zijn gezien de slechte wegen. Daarna zal er een plek in het dorp moeten worden gevonden waar deze tijdelijk van worden afgeladen omdat hij te groot is om bij Peace Home neer te zetten. De vrachtwagen zal niet eens met de container tot aan het land kunnen komen en daar afladen of draaien. De spullen uit de container zullen dus vanaf een andere locatie met kleinere voertuigen naar het land moeten worden verplaatst.
We zullen jullie op de hoogte houden van de ontwikkelingen bij Peace Home de komende tijd. Er zijn altijd meer fondsen nodig om het dagcentrum af te werken en voor de maandelijkse kosten. Eenmalige en maandelijkse donatie kunnen veel betekenen voor Peace Home.
