As some people hopefully know by now, Peace Home is a community project.
But what is the meaning of 'community project' exactly?
'Community Project means any work, service enterprise or undertaking of a charitable or non-profit nature, being carried on in the Municipality or elsewhere for the benefit of persons living in the Municipality.'
Peace Home believes that a project will only succeed in a community if it is built up by the community so that everyone feels committed to it's succes. All community members can uplift each other in such a project if they get the chance. We want to develop a place where every member of the community feels welcome to visit and contribute. This will also increase social contact and awareness throughout the community for the youth with disabilities.
What the future holds for Peace Home as a community project
Every step of the way Peace Home focusses on increasing the community involvement. In the next years, the ultimate objective is for Peace Home to be run in and by the community/by Ghanaian professionals, but first the day centre has to be built. In the near future, which is this coming year, we will expect the community to help with building the structure.
In what way is Peace Home involving the community now?
Now that we have shed light on the ultimate objective of Peace Home as a community project we will give some examples of how the community already is and will be involved.
Firstly, the team already consists of seven people from Busua. The plan is to continue building up the team with passionate people from in and around Busua.
Soon, this team will be more divers with professionals from different fields of work. For example, there will be physiotherapists, nurses, teachers and social workers involved. Workshops can be given by anyone who is interested to share his or her suiting knowledge or skill.
As you all know, the preparations for the building of the day-centre are still going on and we are planing to start in February.
During meetings with the Chief and Assembly man of Busua we have pointed out the importance of the communities involvement in this proces. They both agreed with us that asking for communal labour is valid. The Assembly Man immediately wanted to make the first steps in motivating the community. We already got the chance to speak in front of the community during the New Years committee meeting, organised by the Assembly man. We made a presentation and showed the drawings of the building. In the coming weeks more opportunities will arise to present Peace Home and the building plans to the community.
In two weeks time, we will post another update. We will keep busy in the meantime.

Zoals de meeste van jullie hopelijk inmiddels hebben gegrepen, is Peace Home een community project.
Maar wat betekent een 'community project' precies?
'Community Project betekent elk werk, dienstverlenende onderneming of organisatie voortkomend uit liefdadigheid met een non-profit aanpak die in of rondom een gemeenschap wordt uitgevoerd in het voordeel van die gemeenschap.'
Peace Home gelooft dat een project alleen succesvol zal zijn in een gemeenschap als die gemeenschap deel neemt in het opbouwen van het project. Zo voelt iedereen zich toegewijd aan het succes van het project. Alle mensen van de gemeenschap krijgen in zo'n project de kans om elkaar positief te bekrachtigen.
We willen een plek creëren waar iedereen van de gemeenschap zich welkom voelt en vrij is om een bijdrage te leveren.
Dit zal ook het sociale contact met en het bewustzijn rondom jongeren met beperkingen vergroten in de gemeenschap.
De toekomstplannen voor Peace Home als een community project
Met iedere stap die Peace Home zet, wordt er aandacht besteedt aan de toename van de gemeenschapsbetrokkenheid. Het ultieme doel van Peace Home is dat het wordt gerund in en door de gemeenschap van Busua/Ghanese professionals, maar eerst moet het dagcentrum worden gebouwd. We verwachten dat de gemeenschap de komende tijd gaat ondersteunen bij de bouw van het dagcentrum.
Op welke wijze betrekt Peace Home de gemeenschap al?
Nu dat we het uiteindelijke doel van Peace Home als een community project hebben belicht, zullen we wat voorbeelden geven van manieren waarop de gemeenschap al wordt en zal worden betrokken.
Ten eerste bestaat het team al uit zeven mensen van Busua. Het team zal blijven worden opgebouwd met gepassioneerde mensen van in en rondom Busua.

Het team zal meer divers worden met professionals van verschillende beroepsgroepen. Er zullen bijvoorbeeld fysiotherapeuten, verpleegkundigen, leerkrachten en maatschappelijk/sociaal werkers worden bij komen. Verder kan iedereen die gepassioneerd is om hun passende kennis of skill te delen, komen om workshops te geven.
Zoals jullie weten, vinden momenteel de voorbereidingen plaats voor het bouwen van het dagcentrum. Het plan is nu om in February van start te gaan met de bouw.
Tijdens vergaderingen met het Dorpshoofd en de Assembly Man van Busua, hebben we het belang van de betrokkenheid van de gemeenschap in de bouw benadrukt. Ze waren het beide met ons eens dat we hierin steun kunnen verwachten. De Assembly Man is meteen aan de slag gegaan met het informeren en motiveren van de gemeenschap.
We hebben al de kans gehad om tijdens de nieuwjaars comité vergadering, georganiseerd door de Assembly Man, Peace Home opnieuw te introduceren en de toekomst- en bouwplannen toe te lichten aan een aantal bewoners van Busua.
We hebben een presentatie gemaakt die we de komende weken vaker zullen tonen aan de gemeenschap.
